A de-texturing and spatially constrained K-means approach for image segmentation
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a new and simple segmentation method based on the K-means clustering procedure and a two-step process. The first step relies on an original de-texturing procedure which aims at converting the input natural textured color image into a color image, without texture, that will be easier to segment. Once, this de-textured (color) image is estimated, a final segmentation is achieved by a spatially-constrained K-means segmentation. These spatial constraints help the iterative K-means labeling process to succeed in finding an accurate segmentation by taking into account the inherent spatial relationships and the presence of pre-estimated homogeneous textural regions in the input image. This procedure has been successfully applied on the Berkeley image database. The experiments reported in this paper demonstrate that the proposed method is efficient (in terms of visual evaluation and quantitative performance measures) and performs competitively compared to the best existing state-of-the-art segmentation methods recently proposed in the literature. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Image segmentation is a fundamental approach in the field of image processing and based on user’s application .This paper propose an original and simple segmentation strategy based on the EM approach that resolves many informatics problems about hyperspectral images which are observed by airborne sensors. In a first step, to simplify the input color textured image into a color image without tex...
متن کاملSegmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملAn Improved Pixon-Based Approach for Image Segmentation
An improved pixon-based method is proposed in this paper for image segmentation. In thisapproach, a wavelet thresholding technique is initially applied on the image to reduce noise and toslightly smooth the image. This technique causes an image not to be oversegmented when the pixonbasedmethod is used. Indeed, the wavelet thresholding, as a pre-processing step, eliminates theunnecessary details...
متن کاملMDS-based segmentation model for the fusion of contour and texture cues in natural images
In this paper, we present an original image segmentation model based on a preliminary spatially adaptive non-linear data dimensionality reduction step integrating contour and texture cues. This new dimensionality reduction model aims at converting an input texture image into a noisy color image in order to greatly simplify its subsequent segmentation. In this latter de-texturing model, the (spa...
متن کاملSpatially Constrained Mixture Model and Image Segmentation: A Review
The mixture model is a commonly used approach for image segmentation. However, it doesn’t consider the spatial information. In order to overcome this disadvantage, several spatially constrained mixture models have been proposed. In this paper, these spatially constrained mixture models and their experimental results on synthetic and real world images are presented. These experimental results de...
